Wood Trade Compliance Training and Due Diligence Tools Course

IWPA’s original due diligence training course was developed in partnership with the World Resources Institute utilizing U.S. Agency for International Development funding. The interactive course provides attendees with a comprehensive analysis of the requirements of the Lacey Act and other laws relevant to trade in wood products and practice in conducting different forms of risk assessment and document review. The day-long session outlines resources and procedures that will allow attendees to tailor a compliance system to their company’s market niche.  Attendees will be given online prerequisites to complete prior to the start of the course.

This advanced course builds on the topics covered in the original Wood Trade Compliance course. The program expands on sourcing strategies, risk assessment methods, supply chain management and the validation of supplier compliance.  The end of the day includes an update on the latest regulations and enforcement actions course.  Prerequisite: completion of the Wood Trade Compliance Training course.

IWPA has developed our due diligence resources and training course to empower compliance professionals working to meet the due care requirements of the Lacey Act and other laws and
provide them with the tools they need to successfully fulfill their role in sourcing decisions,
IWPA Executive Director Cindy Squires.

The World Resources Institute is pleased to be supporting IWPA in developing the Wood Trade Compliance Training and Due Diligence Tools Course, and in turn thanks the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), our supporter and partner in the Forest Legality Alliance (FLA) initiative.  IWPA has been a leading voice among FLA’s 130 members, and this course came out of discussions amongst both IWPA and  FLA members concerned with practical and effective measures to build industry capacity for compliance  with the Lacey Act and other wood legality measures.
