“The escalating protectionism we have seen in recent days hurts everyone, including U.S. manufacturers and consumers that benefit from global supply chains. IWPA members include more than 200 companies and trade organizations engaged in the import and export of hardwoods and softwoods from around the globe.  There are thousands of American jobs throughout the supply chain associated with our industry. Because tariffs work like taxes on traded products, they increase the cost of doing business.  The ripple effect reaches consumers in higher prices.  Ultimately, we see decreased employment and economic activity as we did with the steel tariffs back in 2002. I remain hopeful that policymakers can step back from tit-for-tat tariffs that will hurt our industry and its customers such as those Canada is considering on U.S. exports of certain plywood products.  History has shown us again and again that no one wins a trade war.”]]> Fri, 1 Jun 2018 20:54:10 GMT
