IWPA Honors Industry's Best
Aesthetic, Innovative, and Environmental Award Winners Announced

New Orleans, Louisiana – The International Wood Products Association (IWPA) announced IWPA Excellence Award winners on the opening day of the 55th Annual Convention. Winners were announced in three categories: Aesthetic, Innovative, and Environmental Excellence.

(l-r) Romel Bezerra, Elof Hansson USA, winner of Aesthetic and Environmental Excellence; Chris Paras, IWPA 2010/2011 President, Argo Fine Imports; Warren Spitz, UCS Forest Group, winner of Innovative ExcellenceChris Paras, IWPA 2010/2011 President observed, “I like to think of IWPA’s Awards Program as the ‘People’s Choice Awards’ for wood. Winners are not picked by committees or by the amount of money spent on marketing. The winners are picked by IWPA members. When you and your product gain the respect of your competitor – you know you’ve done a good job.” Paras continued, “These award winners truly illustrate the best in corporate social responsibility, environmental leadership and strategic innovation.”

Aesthetic Excellence Winner: Elof Hansson USA for their Ipanema decking. A new and beautiful decking line that is attracting attention from architects and designers because of its modern features and inherent natural beauty.

Innovative Excellence Winner: UCS Forest Group for their use of Accoya ® wood in the University of Florida’s award-winning, self-sustaining, energy-efficient solar house. The Accoya® wood production process takes sustainably-sourced, fast growing softwood and, in a non toxic process, creates a new durable, stable and beautiful product.

Environmental Excellence Winner: Elof Hansson USA for using 36 lesser-known species in the manufacturing of its Ipanema decking line. The use of lesser known species reduces the demand for any one wood species and better utilizes what the forest naturally provides.

IWPA Awards Program voting was conducted by the Association’s active membership from more than 30 countries.
