International Wood Buyers Guide Released

Alexandria, VA – The International Wood Products Association (IWPA) released International Wood, a buyer’s guide to applications, sources and trends, during the opening of the International Woodworking Fair in Atlanta, Georgia. The publication includes a comprehensive, one-stop sourcing directory for the industry along with feature editorials on new and innovative applications and trends for imported wood products.The American Sector Restaurant at the World War II Museum in New Orleans features cumaru wood throughout.

New for 2010 is an expanded section, International Floors and Decks, which illustrates the ways in which exotic wood species are making inroads into these expansive market segments. “It was a natural growth of the editorial product as our association is increasingly working with architects, designers and distributors to help them find suppliers of flooring and decking,” said Brent McClendon, IWPA executive vice president.

Chris Paras, The Penrod Company, IWPA’s 2010/2011 president, commented, “We’ve received great feedback from the wood industry and the A&D community on how this publication inspires them to expand and incorporate imported wood products into their projects.” Paras continued, “We took the concept further this year with our ‘Designing for Good’ and ‘Winning with Wood’ articles. These two stories, and other featured projects, outline the supporting role that architects, designers and importers can play in advancing sustainable forest management and improving conditions on-the-ground for some of the most impoverished communities in the world when they specify imported wood, plywood, lumber, veneer, or other wood products.”

International Wood also serves as an invaluable “Buyers Guide”, a “yellow pages” of industry suppliers for anyone involved in sourcing imported wood products or locating service providers to industry. “In addition to highlighting some fantastic success stories that used exotic woods, we expanded distribution,” said McClendon. “We’ve increased hardcopy distribution by 33%, plus maintain a digital edition on our website. By focusing International Wood as a ‘Buyers Guide,’ we are quite confident this publication will stay front-and-center on buyer’s desks as a year-round reference tool.”
