Alexandria, Virginia – With the passing of the gavel from President Craig Forester, Rex Lumber Company, to Incoming President Bronson Newburger, Clarke Veneers and Plywood, the International Wood Products Association (IWPA) closed a successful 60th World of Wood Annual Convention at the JW Marriott in Austin, TX. The Convention also saw the election of two new Board Members: Andy Nuffer, Robinson Lumber Company, and Jordan McIlvain, Alan McIlvain Company (upon Alan McIlvain’s retirement). IWPA saw a 9% growth in attendance over last year's record-setting convention in Las Vegas, as we welcomed a diverse group of attendees involved in the global wood products trade: overseas suppliers, importers, trade facilitators, service providers, non-governmental organizations, and government partners.
“I’m excited to take the reins at IWPA and continue our efforts to grow membership, provide much needed resources to members as they tackle due diligence, and increase our outreach to organizations that share our dedication to ensuring the health of global forests. It’s going to be a busy year and I can’t wait to get started,” said Newburger of his upcoming presidency.
World of Wood 2016 hosted dynamic presentations including leadership and coaching strategies from Keynote Speaker Dean Savoca and critical market updates from Win Thin, Global Head of Emerging Markets Strategy for Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. Attendees were also able to get the latest information about: Lacey Act compliance and enforcement, proposed formaldehyde regulations from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the California Air Resources Board, due diligence strategies, and marketing of sustainably sourced wood products. The convention also hosted IWPA’s semi-annual Board Meeting and meetings of IWPA’s member-led committees.
IWPA has posted the speakers' presentations on our convention website for attendees, who would like to refer back to them, as well as for those who were unable to travel to Austin.
Mark your Calendars: IWPA now turns to planning World of Wood 2017, which will take place at the Hotel Nikko in San Francisco, California on April 5-7, 2017.
Established in 1956, the International Wood Products Association’s (www.IWPAwood.org) mission is to build acceptance and demand in North America for globally sourced wood products from sustainably managed forests. IWPA is the leading international trade association for the North American imported wood products industry, representing 200 companies and trade associations engaged in the import of hardwoods and softwoods. Association members consist of three key groups involved in the import process: U.S. importers and consuming industries, offshore manufacturers and the service providers that facilitate trade.
