Alexandria, Virginia – The 60th World of Wood Annual Convention hosted by the International Wood Products Association (IWPA) is the only event that brings together individuals and businesses from every segment of the North American imported woods industry. The event takes place April 6-8 in Austin, Texas, and IWPA is planning sessions that will cover critical topics including Economic Trends and Market Projections for wood products, compliance with Lacey Act and CITES, U.S. Customs Classification and Audits, EPA & CARB Formaldehyde Emission Rules, Sustainable Trade Opportunities and Challenges and Leadership and Business Strategies.
Today IWPA Executive Director Cindy Squires is excited to announce a panel discussion entitled Lacey Act Update – Enforcement & New Tools for Compliance. The panel will consist of Ms. Parul Patel of the USDA-APHIS Lacey Act Office, Mr. Christopher L. Hale of the U.S. Department of Justice who was part of the team that led the Lumber Liquidators prosecution, and Hugh Reitz of UCS Global who serves as Co-Chair of IWPA's Due Care Project Training Committee. “Given this week’s announcement of the $13.1 million dollar fine imposed on Lumber Liquidators, wood products importers will want to know exactly how this case could impact their own due diligence procedures. This panel will give attendees an opportunity to hear that latest on enforcement and compliance and learn more about the training course IWPA has developed to ensure that their staff have access to all the compliance tools they need,” said Squires.
In addition to top-notch speakers and informative panels that will provide you with the latest market intelligence, regulatory developments, and global perspectives, the World of Wood Convention offers unparalleled networking opportunities. Over 300 importers, U.S. manufacturers, exporters, wholesalers, offshore suppliers and service providers to the global wood products industry from nearly 30 countries gather for this annual event.
The three-day event will take place April 6-8 at the brand new JW Marriott Austin, situated in the heart of the city and a short 15-minute drive from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The IWPA room block expires March 4, 2016.
Established in 1956, the International Wood Products Association (www.IWPAwood.org) is the leading international trade association for the North American imported wood products industry, representing 220 companies and trade associations engaged in the import of hardwoods and softwoods from sustainably managed forests.
